Inaugurated in 2018, our Senegalese training centre was established as an East African learning hub. Solar Mama training has included women of Senegal, Cameroon and soon, Mayotte. Two successful cohorts and a third as of October 15th have credited more than 20 women as solar engineers. In addition to their solar training, the Senegal campus provides women trainees with Enriche and Women Wellness livelihood training. This includes self-advocacy, entrepreneurial efficacy, digital literacy and sustainable stewardship.
Livelihoods included are locally tailored, such as regionally specific regenerative agriculture, sewing and organic charcoal production. Workshops are hands-on and curriculums are designed so that semi-literate and illiterate women are still fully capable of enrolling and engaging successfully within the classes. Our key partner, DP World, is responsible for supporting the women’s equipment, transportation and scholarship logistics. They have been monumental in making this program function effectively and punctually.
